Jakub Moravek was born in 1971. He grew up in Czechia, which was formerly socialistic Czechoslovakia. In the early 90ies Jakub Moravek moved to Germany and studied art. He is a part of the generation, who grew up behind the iron curtain. For them the border between Germany and Czechia was practically impossible to cross. This borderline represented the most concrete symbol of restrictions, control mechanisms and the
political separation between the East and the West.

The video installation TRANSIT is his first exhibition in his native town Prague. This project has been specially made for the exhibition SPACE CAMP. The video shows the artist crossing illegally the border from Germany to Czechia. 4 days before the vernissage Jakub Moravek got smuggled over the border, hidden in an ordinary car boot. In the time of an unified Europe with „wide open“ borders this illegal act appears to be senseless and absurd but aims to reflect the history of Moravek and his generation.
